The client, a premium beauty group, would like to understand the landscape and workings of the specialty channel in China’s premium skincare and cosmetics space, and what the implications of this channel are for the group’s development in China


Solutions

•    Understood the role of the specialty channel for China’s premium beauty and skincare market, including the channel landscape, key players, trends, growth potential and the ways in which specialty and retail channels interact

•    Mapped out how the specialty channel really works in terms of the specialty business models and partnership models with skincare brands 

•    Evaluated potential winners and losers of brands and channel players in the specialty channel

–Evaluating and profiling high potential specialty players
–Identifying key success factors for skincare brands that will allow them to fully benefit from the specialty channel


•    Assessed consumers (regular users of premium and prestige brands) behavior and attitudes towards the specialty channel

–Have visited premium specialty stores once per month on average over the past one year 


•    Analyzed the implication (Merge & Acquisition) of this channel for the group’s development in China


Methodology

•    ~ 100 consumer interviews in 4 Tier 1 cities and 4 Tier 2 cities 

•    Conducted approximately 70 in-depth interviews with industry experts across the specialty value chain, including specialty personnel, retailers, channel key players, channel brands and competitors
